Perpetual asphalt pavements are designed and built to last longer than 50 years, needing only periodic surface renewal without requiring major structural rehabilitation or reconstruction.  Acceptance of perpetual pavements, which consist of a deflection reducing middle layer(s) sandwiched between a fatigue resistant bottom and a durable surface, is growing as their performance is documented and design procedures are adopted.  This webinar will cover 23 years of design, construction, and performance of perpetual pavements on the NCAT Pavement Test Track utilizing both conventional and innovative materials.

Attendees will:

  1. Identify the differences between conventional and perpetual pavement designs.
  2. Learn methods for selecting ideal materials and mixes for each layer in a perpetual pavement structure.
  3. Learn the steps to establish minimum and maximum thicknesses to construct pavement structures that can effectively last forever.
